428 cobra jet engine block value

1 Attachment(s)
I've got a stripped engine block that is either a 427 or 428 cobra jet (it was confirmed by the engine guy from cobra automotive) it has verticals ribbing along the outside of the block which I'm told means that it was a replacement block rather than one installed in a cobra from the factory, I haven't been able to find any stripped blocks for sale to get an idea of what it's worth, I know regular stripped 428 blocks aren't really worth anything, but was told that the cobra jet blocks are different, any ideas on what it's worth?

Well first we know it's not a sideoiler. Yes, the ribs would indicate a "service block".

Some numbers around the oil filer area will help nail down what it is. Look for something like C_AE _.

A few pics of the underside of the block might help as well.

Also, since it is stripped, take a flashlight and look into the freeze plug holes for a possible casting that says "428" on the outside of the cylinder casting.

Post all the numbers that you can....casting numbers, bore size, etc.

A regular 428 block is worth a good bit of money. However, most service blocks (the ones with ribs) are of the 390 flavor....and if you have one that's been bored out to a 428 bore, it's most likely junk now.

428 value

I just bought a 428 cobra jet motor. It has a C hand welded on the back of the engine and has the correct bore. It also has the ribs down the side of the motor. It came with the Pistons that were marked with a 428 and the word super. From the research I have done, I believe this means that it is a 428 cobra jet service block. I paid $1,000 for it
