390 builds

Happy new year to you all from the uk.

I am hoping to get my engine built this year.

I have a standard 390 engine with iron heads with larger valves fitted. This will be married up to a 4 speed toploader with 3.55- 3.80 rear end.

I know most will probably say stroke it but I really haven't got the budget for that at the moment.

Anyone got any build data for a nice strong torque engine?

I don't still have the build data, but I had a 390 in a Ford Galaxie that I had some work done on and it really made a difference. Best I remember was headers which really helped, a warmer cam and better heads as this was a driver and not a race car. I believe that I picked up right at 90 horsepower just from those simple things.

You can get a fun ride out of a 390....

Remember, most FFR's when they first appeared were powered by 225 hp 302's.

Quality machine work, a nice cam, and a Performer RPM intake manifold will put you in a sweet spot. When you get ready to look for individual part numbers, I can help you.
