Pond "cobra engine"

I see pond offers cobra engines...anyone have any experience? How do they compare to others on here? Quality builds?

Great quality. Great company. Or you can use Blykins or craft. Both build excellent engines and have a great reputation.

Craft is an advertiser & sponsor of CC, and Brent Lykins (blykins) is a VERY active and helpful contributor.

Just my $0.02.

You cannot go wrong with Brent. Very knowledgable and has a good reputation.

Couldn't agree more.

Blykins doesn't build aluminum (Pond) FEs anymore, last thing he said.

Can you deal with Robert direct?
I thought he changed his business model. Maybe I'm wrong.

When I was sourcing my FE a little over a year ago I checked with Pond and Robert told me they are selling parts but not building complete engines anymore (at least for the general public).

The current Web page at 427 Ford Cobra Engine shows an iron block FE, and the top of the page says "Cast Iron FE Block is NHRA Approved for Stock and Super Stock". Verbiage later on the page says:
Here is what Robert Pond Motorsports provides “standard” in its crate engine:
  • New 427 Ford Cobra FE type engine blocks are genuine Robert Pond Motorsports blocks. Blocks are aluminum and can be bored and stroked to displace over 500 cubic inches. RPM blocks come with billet steel main caps and ARP stud kits for the mains

There's more, but there is definite inconsistency. That could extend to availability as well...

There is no date visible on the page, nor in the page source - so that page may have been up there for years.

I know, but I specified aluminum. That appears to be his standard bill-o-fare.

Pond blocks

I don't think Pond builds engines.

Brent is finishing up some Pond heads for me. I should receive them any day.

I don't think Pond does the CNC program either. My understanding is that Craft does the actual CNC work.

But call him, and see, or call one of the builders - Brent, Blair, etc. They deal with this stuff all the time.
