I'm no FE expert, but Brent or anyone interested in helping you may want to know which stock cast iron head?

Uhhh, sorry. You have to be able to come up with the perfect head, the perfect configuration, and the perfect components without knowing the details on the rest of engine. Plus, you have to guess at what the customer is really going to do with the engine. That's the rules... and it makes it more fun for the rest of us.;)

Hi everyone, I have a 427 stroker and I'm ready to install a set of aluminum heads. I want to purchase a complete assembled set that's all ready to go. My questions are are there different compression ratio to pick from and which one is the best for the street. Are there any incidentals that should be considered when ordering them ie [ss valves, teflon valve seals, sodium filled exhaust valves etc] I only want to order once and want to get it right the first time. Last who manufactures the best items? The car is a semi show car and driven only on the street. Thanks for your time.

Ooops. I just re-read the OP. OP wants to buy a new set of aluminum heads, so now I'm confused, because the OP mentions stock cast iron heads too. I'm also kinda curious what 427 block the OP intends to use.

Also, Blue Thunder heads haven't been mentioned and I'm also kinda curious why? Is it because they have raised exhaust ports, availability or are the Survival and BBM heads just better?

I'm bored, my Cobra is still "at the spa."

Well, pay attention.:MECOOL: See, ol' Brent could probably answer any of the OP's questions in, probably, ten words or less, if they were just propounded to him properly. The trick is in the asking... because, Brent's tolerance has gone down over the years and he's likely to give up on this thread if the OP dallies....

The BT heads are just impossible to get anymore. They take their sweet time on making them, and they usually just make enough to take care of a few people.

See? Nine words. His second sentence was just a bit of icing.

For the given purpose as outlined the Boring answer is:
Just grab a set of edelbrocks.
They’re tried and proven over hundreds of builds, most likely you’re builder has used them before on previous engines himself and is aware of how best to make them jive with the rest of your combo. Plus they’re likely to be the easiest to get your grubby hands on.

If it were me however, I’d chase a set of survivals or bbm.
However I am led to believe that both of these may have stock availability issues depending on where they are in their manufacturing cycle.

Whichever heads I got, I’d get them ported or at least blended to match.

Good luck with your search.

blykins 11-28-2017 03:12 AM

That would work as long as he doesn’t have a MR head, HR, or TP.

OK, stuped question......... How do I go about finding out what what heads I have? I think there is a casting number under the valve cover some ware is that correct? If not where would I look? Thanks.

blykins 11-28-2017 06:16 AM

Cast number is usually between the center exhaust ports on the outside of the head.

Your safest bet is to take and post several pictures -- that will eliminate "screw ups." Brent is likely going to want to see your intake manifold as well.

OP appears to be looking for a nice street cruiser. The parts he lists for his current engine look to be making up a real nice build. It may help if he shares what he thinks he is missing from his current setup/heads once he identifies them here. In other words, why the search for aluminum heads now? What do you want your car to do better than it is doing now?

You can find the Head casting information on the outside between the two center exhaust ports with a flashlight like seen below:

I saw a thread on the FE Forum about a possible "Forum buy" of the BT heads to get them to make a production run. Then I'm assuming this was just wishful thinking on the Forum's part.
