What FE 2 barrel is this and what carb will work ?

I have a local FE guy that will loan me a 2 barrel FE intake to break in my new cam, as I have a electronic injection going on it.
Never seen one like it. What model is it, what year etc ? Does it require any Holley or what will work ? |

That intake looks pretty wide and if it is a Ford intake I would guess it may have came off of a 352, or 390. Does it have any casting Numbers on it? As for what 2 barrel carb to use, as stated above that would depend on your cam but you would most likely need a small cfi one.

It will be a solid flat tappet.,
The owner used it on his 390. Jay likes the specs of this cam along with the computer system. My father had a 1967 Ford LTD with a 390 2bbl, actually went like stink. I had it for a few years after high school.

Haven't thought of the huge LTD in years. It was one of the first cars I worked on in autobody school.
Still looking for a carb. |
I bought a old FE intake and Holley 4160 4- barrel carb for $20, so much better than,the 2 barrel. I could tell the owner needed some cash, so I gave him a little more.
Just need to buy a rebuild kit for 20 bucks. |
Your cam sounds like a good choice.
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=947&sb=2 It is really a 37/77 advanced by 4 to give 41/73 intake, 81/33 exhaust. I would install it at 0 on your timing set, because of the advance ground into the cam, even think about 2 degrees of retard on your chain set. Even at 37/77 it would be a potent street combo. Gary |
Question. Why does the FE like to have squared up intake & exhaust and lift numbers ?
Because the both valves are the same size ? |

Typical timing for many four stroke engines. Makes it easy for the cam grinder, only one master needed to copy from. The intake valve/s is/are nearly always larger than the exhaust on a naturally aspirated engine. The intake valve has, at best, atmospheric pressure behind it, filling a negative pressure in the cylinder. The exhaust is a high pressure (blowdown) as the valve opens, becoming near atmospheric at the end of exhaust, beginning of intake, overlap period. Hence the "reversion" that occurs on the inlet stroke, seen in the inlet manifold runners on a plenum manifold, and part of the reason for the fuel cloud on IR carbs, Webers etc. The longer the overlap period, the worse the phenomenon .
