Shelby Alum Block rear main torque specs
ARP lists 110 lbs final torque for their 1/2" main studs. Wondering if that applies to alum FE block too or cast iron only??
Thanks Ray |
I will not advise on the Toque in you application, but you need to make sure that the threads on the fastener are the right length, when dealing with aluminum.
For a steel bolt I believe a rough rule of thumb is one bolt diameter of threads is needed to hold maximum torque. Aluminum being softer and it creeps (flows) over time requires quite a bit more threads. I recall some years back a fellow used a bolt kit for a cast iron engine, and the threads pulled out of his block eventually. My advise to you is to get your data from an expert who builds these engines. |
I was hoping to get a response from one of the engine builders on this forum. I can't think of a forum with any more Shelby alum FE block experience than what I see here. If I can't get an expert opinion before Monday I will call Gessford. Thanks for your response Dog.

There is a website that is nothing but FE guys, but I forget its name. Seems like FE Forum, but I do not know the exact name.
Brent may stop in but if not, he has his own website. I'm brian dead on that name as well. I just got back from a work trip to France. 6 weeks of 10 - 11 hour days and my brain is a bit numb right now. |
It's Brent Lykins ( Lykins Motorsports) who recently said he was building no more alum block fe's, but he would still know the numbers, as would Barry Robotnik or Jim? lefevers.
I have the spec sheet from shelby in my engine paperwork. I'll dig it out and post. |
Here's the specs from Shelby:
Main stud (all) 85 lbs/ft with moly lube side bolts 38 lbs/ft " " " head studs 10 lbs/ft " anti seize head nuts 95 lbs/ft " moly lube. This one may be incorrect, I think I saw where Barry R said he was using 85 ft/lbs on the head nuts, but I would check with him first. |
