Distributor Gear for Mech Roller Cam
Hello -
I was wondering if someone on this site can recommend a distributor gear for my FE engine? The engine has a Comp Cams mechanical roller camshaft and MSD distributor. I was hoping to find a composite or melonized gear. I don't want a bronze gear because of the wear characteristics and the need for frequent gear replacement with a bronze gear. Any recommendations for a gear for this application would be appreciated. Thanks for your help. BD |
And the same will happen with a polymer or composite gear.
If it's a cast core camshaft, it needs a cast iron gear. If it's a steel core camshaft, it needs a steel gear. The gear will also depend on the distributor's shaft diameter. If your cam card says your cam's part number ends with a -9 or -11, you have a steel cam. You need Crane 52971-1. Yes, I know it says for a 351C, but that's what you use. |

Thanks for the info. But when I go to the Crane Cams website and type in the part number 52971-1 it give this - "Iron Distributor Gear for Ford Boss, 351C, FE, 370-460 V-8 - .531'' shaft diameter" Is the part number correct? BD |
52971-1 is a steel gear.

Thank you Brent for confirming this. I later looked on the Summit website and they showed it as a Crane steel distributor gear. I guess the Crane website needs to be corrected.
