Which Steel FE Crank ?
Out of the top FE cranks, which are most used quality cranks ?
Not for racing or high RPM's, so a quality made and machined although cast's are cheaper, over a very nice forged crank, like a Crower, Callies......(beautiful, but....) No billet's needed either. lol I assume, it will be a stroker engine, but not positive yet. Street/strip use. Scat, Eagle etc. |
Kevin - When Brent built my engine I asked him to use a forged crankshaft. I’m not a fan of casting from my professional life. He used a Scat forged piece. I drive my car on the street, no racing, but do get spirited occasionally. No complaints.

If its scat vs eagle for fe build? Its scat every day of the week.
Sadly this forum alone has a history of eagle cranks going pop... |
I thought that people say it the engine doesn't see sustained high RPM as a racing motor, it's overkill and you'll pay at least $400 (+) extra for a forged. I'd rather have stronger
one but... ? I too have heard that about Eagle. |
A forging is a homoginous blank that is hammered to form, heat treated, and ma hined/ground to form. This creates a very small.grained product that is stronger by nature than a poured/cast product the may or may not be exactly as designed. With the forging, the argin of error is much smaller than with a cast product. If you are concerned with liability of failire, go with the forging. If you want to save money, go with the cast product.

IIRC, a Moldex steel billet, chromoly crank costs about 50% over what a SCAT 4340 costs, but it's the strongest crank available, and, you don't need it. Not by a longgggggg shot. |
When I had my FE built about 7 years ago, Keith Craft seemed to be fully committed to SCAT cranks which is what I have.
