pilot bearing for a 391 crank

Has anyone used a 391 truck crank in a 427 FE? I'm trying to find a pilot bearing that would work with a TKO 600.

Quite frequently.

I machine an adapter so you can use a regular FE bushing or bearing. Otherwise you can use a regular FT bushing.

I swapped my top loader for a T-5 in my '66 Fairlane last week. I have a 390 motor. I bought a bronze bushing from O'Reilly's part store for $7.

I think the T-5 and TKO input shafts are the same size.

And a buddy of mine told me after the fact that roller bearings are available for the 390 crank.

Hammered in it and I have put over 300 miles on the car this weekend with no problems

The 391 crank is a different animal and doesn’t take normal FE bushings.

Not to mention the crank nose diameter that will need to be addressed if an FE damper is used.

My buddy found three 391 motor / blocks locally last week. He is looking to use one for a motor in his '66 F100.

blykins can he use the 391 block and a 390 crank?

blykins 06-18-2019 07:48 AM

Yes, but FT blocks need to be bushed for the different sized distributor shaft.

Thanks

we knew about the bushing for the distributor
