Aviaid Oil Dipstick tube on FE motor help
Hi Guys,
The Aviaid Oil pan I installed on my 427FE SO also came with the the oil dipstick tube and dipstick. I will be using the oil tube fitting on the passenger side of pan (plugged the drivers side hole for original dipstick tube). The questions I have are does any one have photos to share of the dipstick tube installed since I am looking at how high this one sits and do you cut the tube with pipe cutter to get the desired height? Also what length oil dipstick did you use? Is using an original dipstick for a FE motor feasible or no based on how low the connection sits. Thanks, Rob |
My Aviad pan came with dipstick and tube. The bottom of the tube connects to the pan tube with a short length of rubber tubing. I used fuel line.
The upper part of the tube has a bracket with a hole for one of the water pump bolts. You fill the pan with 9 quarts of oil and insert dipstick. Adjust the dipstick tube by rotating it slightly on the bracket which will pull the tube up or push it down in the rubber hose. Do this until the dipstick reads FULL. Tighten the water pump bolt and two hose clamps on the rubber hose. Add an extra quart of oil, or whatever amount you need to allow for the oil filter amount. I can take a picture, but not at the moment. Let me know if you still need it after my "explanation"! Oh... I don't remember if I had to cut the tube or not. I'll measure it and let you know. |
Measuring didn't go well. I did find it was 16" from the top of the tube to where it meets the rubber hose. So I'm guessing the tube is about 17.5" long.
If I did cut the tube, I would have held it in place and marked it so it was up about 1/2" from the pan tube. That gives wiggle room for adjustment. Then use a 3" to 4" piece of rubber hose.
