slave cylinder w/ diaphram clutch--FE
Man.......I just got off of the phone with Maurice Weaver. I had some questions about the throw of a slave cylinder and he asked if I was using a diaphram clutch.
I have already bought a Centerforce and had it balance along with my flywheel. Maurice says that a slave cylinder on an FE might not have enough throw to release a Centerforce. I already have the clutch fork and was planning to set the clutch /cylinder up this weekend. Now I may have to scatch this installation and go the hydraulic throw out route. Has anyone used a Centerforce clutch with a slave cylinder on an FE? If so, does it work OK? |
It Works Fine
I have the original Girling Clutch Slave Cylinder and the Centerforce 427 set-up. Never had a problem....

Hi Joe I have a gold centerforce clutch in my car. The disc is GM and the pressure plate is FE. I had the short block balanced. The flywheel was drilled for both 11 inch GM and Ford clutches. If you break down racing and can't get an FE clutch I can go to a GM and get one. I like the centerforce set up, but for 1/4 mile racing I am going to Mcleod soft-loc setup. It is adjustable for racing and will not blow the tires off the car or breakage to the drive train. The down side is 1300.00$ for the assembly. Good luck with your clutch. ERA sends you their clutch system installed for there car. All you have to do is bleed the system. Have you thought about a hydraulic throwout bearing? I will wait for the answer;) Rick Lake

Should work fine I have set up nine or ten cars that way with no problem. As 4027 we used the girling slave and the original brackets. If you go to a Hyd. Throw out use a Quarter Master Mini it is by far the simplest and the sure fire way to go. Only thing we use now for our cars Mike Cost is only 135.00 no fork, no pivot, no problem |

This morning I talked to David Kee and he says "you're heading in the right direction-just keep on doing what you're doing". So... since I already have the fork and the slave cylinder is on its way, I'm going to install them. If David Kee says it will work, I'm sold. I have heard good things about the Quarter Master throw outs though. |
