FE engine weight?

I've seen some posts on engine weights, but I'm still confused. The ranges given are broad. The Ford motorsport crate engine shipping weights are listed as 545 lbs. for the 351 and 392 and 670 lbs. for the 460 and 514. This includes the water pump, using aluminum heads. How much would an FE engine (with aluminum heads) weigh in comparison?

Thanks,
Barry

And the all-aluminum Shelby at 460 lbs. More of my marginal observations and links here.

Hi Barry I have a shelby motor in my car. I have Alum. everything but the crank, camshaft, oilpan (cantonroadracing),lifters, ARP bolts, dampener ATI. My motor weight is 540 lbs. The motor is great. The block and heads cost 8k$ but worth every dollar. Genniss has come out with two new motors, one iron and the other alum. iron one is about 3k$. It might be worth the payout and buy a new block and not mess with an old one. If you buy used, sell to a machine shop and get a sonic test and pressure test on the block befor you do anything. Talk to George Anderson at GESSford. He will help you and is very honest about FE motors.Good luck with your motor. Alumium is the way to go;) Rick Lake ( if you can aford the cost)

Thanks everyone. I didn't realize the FE was so light. Any driving impressions for the 460 block vs. the FE? What effect does the extra weight up front have on handling on a road course type situation?

Also, I'm on a bit of a budget. If I bought a Genesis iron block for $3K and used aluminum heads, how much would it cost for a reasonable motor?

Thanks again all,

I did an estimate for a an aluminum Genesis block with Shelby components at around 12,000 without labor. I've asked them for estimates repeatedly, but I get no response.

$12K ouch! I may have to go with a 460 or 351 stroker :(

Thanks,
