Low Profile Oil Pan
Does anyone have a source for a Low Profile Steel Oil Pan for a 428? I need to alter my pan to street clearence. I have a T-shaped cast aluminium oil pan that is approx 8 1/2" from gasket to drain plug. I need a steel pan that is about 6 1/2 " or 7" gasket to drain plug. The obvious problem is I have only 2 1/2" clearence when I have my coil overs adjusted down to a reasonable height. If I adjust them up to improve my clearence the body sets to high off the front tires.
What about front spindles for a Mustang II ? Can they be replaced by others that would improve my problem? I am open for suggestions. Thanks. Clois Harlan |
Try Armando's oil pans. He can mfg. anything you want. He will need to know if there is any obstruction UNDER your oil pan, like a crossmember, etc..I believe his website is www.apoilpans.com , but i'm not sure. Do a search because he has been talked about here before. As for the MII spindles, the only replacements I know of are stock or 2" drop (Heidts) for the hot rod crowd. I wish you luck!

AR Pans
I have one of Armando's pans on my 331. It's everything he promised. Not ultra modern looking, but certainly fits well with the vintage of the car. I'd buy another from him if I ever needed another pan.

How much was the change in your profile? Did you actually add some ground clearence? I tried to call Armando last night, I guess I waited too late. I will try again in a about an hour.

Oil Pan
Hi Clois,
Have you considerend the Canton road race pan? Low profile and no custom work. I am not sure of dimensions and price. You can contact Rob at Blue Oval Performance in Denver at 303-762-8298 for details. Requires a Canton oil pump pickup and you may as well get the windage screen while you are at it. Mine required a small divot at the front of the pan to clear my oil pump but that is probably specific the pump you are running. As far as spindles, regardless, the proper look of the fender versus the wheel dictates ride height and changing spindles will not alter this dimension. However, to get a little more travel in your coil over setup, you may want to consider a dropped spindle from Heidts. A 2" drop allows you to crank a little more into your spring position and may allow a little more travel over bumps. I am sure there are other options but none will improve your oil pan road clearance. How is your overheating/head problem coming along? Gary |
As it turned out the overheating was the result of three bad sending units. I finally borrowed a laser pyrometer and checked each cylinder wall, radiator, water pump, oil pan, etc., each check out OK. Then I boiled some waster and put my thermostat in and checked when it opened and the reading of the gauge. I had bought these (last 2) gauges from the same source within days of each other. The gauges were fine except the sending units were mis-calibrated. I changed so many things that I may have had a problem caused by several things but all seems to be ok now. My gauges were reading almost 100 degrees hotter than the actual temp.
