Best Method to flush the engine antifreeze?
I need to flush the radiator and engine in my aluminum 427. How do you get the old antifreeze out of the block? There is no drain on the block, and I don't have a heater, so no hoses to put a tee into.

Most shops use a recirculation recollection device that you don't have. If the old days, we would just leave the petcock open, radiator cap off, run the motor and keep topping it off with the garden hose until all fluid coming out is clear, but we shouldn't do that now that we know better. On the motors we did, we always put drain petcocks on the block instead of pipe plugs. You can pressurize the water system with air to try and blow most of the remaining water out the lower hose, this has worked for me before I pull a motor out so as not to make a huge mess. Just remove a fitting from the top front of the intake and connect there.

hey david
Loosen up one of your hose clamps a bit and just let the engine run with no fans. Eventually she'll blow steam and take care of it for you! Then simply refill. Jason ... just kidding of course ... :D |
Mr. Fixit. Thanks, I may just do the old method and keep lots of buckets on hand to take to the local garage for recycle.
Jason, Let's try your method on your car first. I'm sure Bill Parham would like to see you again. What has it been a month since you modified your pushrods :3DSMILE: Made up your mind about Roebling? DC |
