Shell lifters

Read on there is a question burried in here some where.I have a 427 SO that came put together in a complete car.I've had it for three years and put 1400 miles on it. the area of concern is a Crower mechanical cam and shell solid lifters. In Feb I deceided to take the intake manifold off to have some work performed. There was no sign of any thing wrong except the vallley plate was rusting under the carbs. When I re assembled #7 intake valve was the only valve out of adjustment.I adjusted (tightened) to the proper.022". I drove the car twenty miles.Near home the engine (valves) sounded like hell. Home ,I found all the valves loose.I readjusted (tightened) hot. The next morning I adjusted cold to.014" ,warmed up and readjusted to.022" and .024"Hot.All adjustments were to tighten.I'm buying a filter cutter to see what is in the filter.I have removed the Left valvecover and rocker assy.I removed several of the lifters and examined and reiserted. All appeared OK except for#7 intake will not come out. It raises about 1/2" and stops. If I remove the engine ,remove the pan remove all lifters and hold #7 up w/a magnet to remove the cam shaft. Can #7 intake lifter come out the bottom with crank and rods still installed? It appears (to my wife ) that I'm doing all this to spend money and mess with the car.It does appear that summer will be gone before it's all done.I realy do not want to scatter this to completely rebuild or have a failular later.

It may give you the same problem coming out the bottom as it does coming out of the top. I would try to grab it with a rag around it with a pliers. Had all of my lifter bores bored and bushed. Cost $500: I am very happy.

Michael, pull that SO and take it to a 'well known '(with references), machine shop and have them vat, inspect and go from there.
