Anyone have a Ford FE windage tray and tape measure handy???

I want to know the depth of a stock FE windage tray. Set the tray upside down on a table and measure to the highest point. Mine is in the engine now so I can not measure. I would guess something over an inch.

Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary. Do your self a big favor if you can have you oil pan off the motor and bolt 1 gasket and the tray to the bottom of the motor and check for clearance. I have a 427 block and a 428 crank, My rod bolts hit the factory windage tray, so I went to Canton and brought their NEW super tray and the same thing happened. Called Canton tech and they said it might hit. IT SURE DID. I pulled the oil pan off,put a gasket and the tray back up and started to mark where the rods hit. I ended up cutting the open side apart and rewelding it to clear the rods. 2 other people had the same problem. You want to give 1/8 inch to clearance. This should help all your problems Rick Lake Good Luck:)

Actually I wanted to verify the oil level. I was told by Earl at Dove to make the final oil level 1/2" below the bottom of the windage tray. I did this with a stock dip stick and ugly home made tube. I have since ordered a Lokar (#5012) tube assembly that looks great, but the stick is significantly different length then mine (~1" to full mark) I wanted to "double check" my original measurement by estimating the height on the side of the pan (with measurement requested above) then check level through 1/2" NPT fitting on the Canton road race pan. So if you sitll have the stock windage tray... :) :)

Thanks

Gary

Sorry Gary I through that windage tray out. It was twisted from the rod bolt damage that happened. My canton pan said 7 or 8 quarts of oil and 3 for my actusump pre luber I used the orignial drip stick and put 7 quarts in it and had no reading so I added two more and when with that. Better to have 1 quart over that 1 quart lite. I know this is not helping SORRY.:( Rick Lake

Gary,
I just happen to have my oil pan off so I could drill and weld in an oil temp plug but I ran into antifreeze (not good) so the pan is still off.

Anyway I have a stock Ford oil pan and Ford windage tray. The back is 1 1/2 high and the front before the oil pick-up is 1 3/4 (1 11/16 to be exact).

I hope this helps.
