Help.. FE Value..

Project X is well underway.. I have found the perfect FE engine (I think) and need your help..

The following I know to be true..

The engine is Freshly Rebuilt, yet to be assembled.. Long Block, Heads et al are assembled but the heads have yet to be put on, pan is on with two bolts, etc..

It is a 1966 427 Side Oilier, C6AE-C
W/ Cross Drilled Crank C5AE 6303A ($)
Heads are MR C5AE 6090 F
Intake is MR C5AZ 9424 G
Le Mans Rods C5AE D

Block is .010 over. NO SLEEVES.. Have a look..

All parts included, dual point distributer, fly wheel, bolts, Holley 600cfm carbs (not original) "Cobra" oil pan, valve covers and air cleaner as well as a cool little stand that I can roll into the living room and into the bedroom at night.. :)

HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH?? The current owner is having second thoughts about selling.. How high should I reasonably go?

Regards,

Mike-

Are you going to use everything that you listed?

I ask because I don't think I would use that heavy old crank or those rods. I would also get either Shelby or Edelbrock aluminum heads - is the flywheel aluminum? If not I wouldn't use it either. I am partial to the Aviaid oil pans so the oil pan would go too. Water pump looks like a heavy one too - I would get an aluminum one.

What I am saying is this - is this engine what you would have built given a blank sheet of paper? If it is, great! In that case I would say it may be worth six to eight thousand?

I don't see much reason to use original old expensive used up parts if you are going to build a motor - restoring an old original car is another thing.

Just my opinion!!

Pat

PS - Did you sell your 428 yet?

LOL

LOL.. Did I mention there was $1500. in Head and Manifold porting.. But then you painted your Cobra Ferrari Red...

Thanks Pat!

Yeah - I kind of liked the irony in doing it, too.

The next car is going to be Auto Union silver.

Mike,
Isn't the Lemans crank different than the steel crank with the $ signs. I believe it has wider journals requiring different rods.

Come by and borrow my FE book, if you need to.

SCOBRAC 09-22-2002 01:43 PM
