JBAIRD:
Not the Dove TP's, I mean originals. Is the 370 cfm number you are speaking of with the intake manifold bolted on? If so, that is very impressive, I've never seen numbers anywhere near that high. |
Re:
As for Dove, I saw one of their water pumps my friend ordered for his original Galaxie R 427 - to help with cooling. He is a high-end machinist by trade..., he was absolutely pissed about the quality - and it very was expensive. The bracket holes were misdrilled, there were shavings inside the pump, and the finished product looked like garbage if you ask me. And, the aluminum on this pump was soft. Hopefully they have solved their quality control problems...

DEcooney Why did not your friend get an Ebrock waterpump If you call they will make it without the name on the pump or polish it off. They make a top of the line pump and the holes are in the right places.
68GT500 Hi mike I sent you a private message, did you get it? Rick Lake |
RE:
The Dove had an image of original casting numbers, and he thought it would be appropriate for his numbers match R Code 427 Galaxie.
In retrospect, he wishes he had bought the Edelbrock now, but it was a year too late to return the Dove. (Car is in restoration - too much going on, and he let it go too long). As it turns out, he may just get rid of the Dove water pump all together - and buy something better. |
JBAIRD,
I have CSX 284 that I'm building for a customer and CSX 287 for myself. After receiving, inspecting, and rejecting 2 sets of Dove aluminum tunnel port heads I'm getting ready to tell Dove to take a hike. I have spent too much time building my Tunnel port EFI manifold to give up now. I know is sounds crazy, but I was inspecting a set of E-brock heads and discovered it wouldn't be impossible to convert them into tunnel ports.:JEKYLHYDE. Not impossible, but not easy. I'm a stubborn kraut so I'm not going to give up yet!. --Mike |

Velasco about $2100 through my builder, but I've heard as high as $2700 retail. Engine is not put together yet, but my builder is paying attention to the fit at the mains. I chose the Blue Thunder from reviewing everyone's comments about their performance and quality, and because of the look to tell you the truth. I am going with the Edelbrock because my builder loves to open them up, and due to consistent mixed comments about the Doves. |
Cobra fever--
Jim Weatherford, Jerry Driscoll and I looked at the SAME engine---(in Dean's little glassed-in antiseptic build room, when we saw it). Very impressive. Probably high price of admission, by my guess. Does $20-23,000 sound right? I shoulda been a lawyer!---but I'd be too conservative for the "club"--no, waitaminute! I know one or two conservative lawyers! Professor Fever---don't you agree that engine looked like jewelry? Gawd! I'd want it in my living-room! Speakin'-o-that type of abberation---who is the guy with the honest-to-god Ferrari F1 (maybe 2-3 years old) in his living-room? I THINK I saw it in something like the Robb report. Gotta be in Yurp or an emirate........ |
