Need Oil Temp Sender Mounting Ideas
I've got a 1964 center oiler with an Aviaid 9qt oil pan that I will be installing into my FFR Roadster. During my engine test-fit, I realized that there is only a 3/4” gap between the front of the pan and the 4” frame cross member. This will allow me enough room to remove the oil drain plug, but not enough room to install my Auto Meter electric oil temp sender (which is over an inch long and I presume mounts in the 1/2” NPT hole in the front of the pan).
I’d appreciate any suggestions as to how to solve this. It’s not practical to shift the engine rearward. Are there other ways/places to mount the sender? I noticed what look like 3/8” NPT plugs on each side of the block near the freeze plugs. Can these be used to tap into the oil galley? I’d like to avoid the hassle and expense of having the pan drilled/fitted for a different mounting position. Thanks. |
If you are running an oil cooler, or even just a remote filter, the remote filter mount often has unused (plugged) pipe fittings you can stick the sender into. If that won't work for you, find a welder and have him weld a bung onto your pan for it.

Why not.......
just plumb a remote mount using AN fittings and steel braided hose? That way you can mount it to any convenient location in your engine compartment.

I have a Contemporary with an FE motor. I installed the oil temp sensor into the rear output on the remote oil mount on the side of the block. The front in and out fittings went to the dual remote filters, and the oil cooler.
Let me know what you get for temp readings. |
