oil pressure
Is there a difference in the way oil pressure
in my side oiler is created ( and first indicated ) compared to my old 390? Thanks , John |
Not really.
I'm not sure where the oil pressure pick-up point was located on your 390, but mine (427 SO) is located at the adapter where the oil filter would normally mount to the block (I have a remote-mounted filter). Assuming the sensor pick-up point is in the same location, nothing should differ from the 390. The only real difference in the oiling systems is in the way the oil distributes throughout the block. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Keith :) |
My sending unit is located as you decribed , the difference the way the oil is distributed
may be the reason my gauge responds differently . I just don't want to take any chances . I'm guessing that the side oiler , the path of oil travels from the pump , thru the filter , to the galley . If the galley needs to be filled ( after sitting a week ) I guess I could see a delay in the pressure. It just seems different , shutting it down at the gas station , the pressure stayed a while on the gauge . |
oil pressure--considered necessary by some people
A side oiler sends oil to the crank mains first "priority oiling", other FE's send it to the lifter galley first, hence "top oiler" |
Info
John,
How long of a delay are you seeing before your gauge begins to move? Mike |
