Hot Cam for 428
I'm going to have a 428 built and would like a "lopey " cam at idle. I would like to know what manufacturer and dimensions, you would recommend . I also would like your views on such a thing. I still want reliability! I have had engines with VERY "lopey" cams in T Buckets and 34 Fords (you know that other manufacturer ). I want the effect of "if people don't see me they, will come to find out what the hell is that ". Thanks in advance for your opinions. :D :D

check with Crower...
I just swapped my cam out this last weekend, and would highly recommend doing your homework on this one. What I learned from trying a few different cams is that you can achieve varying results such as lopey sound, but also hurt other aspects of the car's driveability and performance if you go too far in one direction or the other....
I ended up trying various software packages that help to select a cam based on several parameters: car weight, transmission, gear ratio, tire sizes, street or track sizes and usage. I used this data to compare with verbal recommnedations with various cam manufacturers. Next, I had to consider longevity for my cam and to my valvetrain etc... vs. that lopey sound and performance.... If you call Crower, Jerry is very helpful and can select a cam that will meet that sweet spot between function vs. reliability and longevity. Good Luck, its an important choice to make. |
