May be starting it tomorrow for break in. I know idle is not a concern during cam break in, but ideally what should my engine idle eventually be set at?
*A roving 1500-2500 rpm for 30 minutes is the priority.

I have the complete Edelbrock RPM package (Cam and Heads)
The only variance was a Holley 850 mech double pumper.

Messing with my MSD timing curve now for start up and they mention that centrifugal advance should start just above the idle RPM. So where would that be in the ideal setting above or below 1000 on these things?

Looking at the advance curves that are in figure 2, Page 3 of the MSD billet instructions. I have to pick one of the lower two cuves shown on the right most column ( E or F )

Currently using "E", with light blue/silver & silver stop bushing. Works well.

Tim, I don't know how my cam compares with yours, it is a Comp Cams, .571 lift, 110 degree lobe separation, 282 duration@.015 lift, intake and exhaust...I have a real solid idle at 750-775 rpm, I think I'm using the setup for diagram "E"...1 light silver, one light blue spring and the silver bushing, 10-11 degrees initial, 35-36 degrees total advance.
Give us a progress report on your breakin and dial-in of the motor...

I found the blue and silver springs best as well with total of 34 curved in by 2400.

Spent to day in the garage getting it ready for tomorrow.
Thanks for the input today. I decided on the setup using the light blue and lighter silver springs. For the advance bushing stop, I stayed with the original stop which was blue and is supposed to give me 21 degrees of advance.
If that works, then I am free to play with 10 to 14 degrees of static timing. Total will be in around 2500. So 30 - 34 total is possible, I have heard a rule of thumb on initial timing..not less than 10 and not more then 20

This falls in line with what George told me to strive for. He said have her all in by 2500 to 3000 rpm..10 -14 initial and 30-34 total

Should be fun.

Crazy thing......I left my horns on the floor under the car as I stalled for the last 8 months on where to mount the pair. Had to be in the right spot yada yada etc

Today I did it and it only took 2 hours to get them just right.

Funny how things seem so big when you stall on them.

Just have to add the coolant and gas, take it off the axle stands and roll out to the driveway.

One more turn by hand on the engine and another prelube.
