428 cj auction. is it me or?.....
Am I not getting something. Take a look at this auction.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2414014911 This looks like a service block to me. Am I wrong? did they make 428 cj blocks in 1976? I thought about bidding when it was in the $200-$350 range. I am not a block expert is this thing really worth over a grand? Could it be a cj block? What do you guys think? are the guys bidding on this being misled or maybe they just need a service block real bad. everyone have a good one, Dan |
Dan,
The C6 to start the number is a 1966 engine. I don't have my papers here at the moment to tell you what the AZ means but it most likely will tell what car or model the motor would have been in. The NOS as I am sure you know means New Old Stock. It was a new motor that was never used. Some of the guys can give you a link that will tell you almost every breakdown of the codes. I have it in the book but as I said, I don't have my book here. I am almsot sure that they never made any 428 CJ engines after 1969. Ron |
Thanks Ron,
I noticed the c6 in the number also but was not sure if that was the block casting or not. I guess what is throwing me are the ribs on the side of the block(I thought that meant service block but I could be wrong) and the fact that he says 1976. Any way still more than I want to spend right now but I was just curious. have a good one, Dan |
Hi Dan...you can view the same part number on this Ford catalog page at the top....and I'd certainly suggest the block is worth where the auction is now...if it's still new and still a standard block. george

George,
Was that not a Thunderbird 428. I know the CJs came out in 1968 & 1969. They also had some police inteceptor 428s earlier than that. Shelby used the CJ engine in the GT-500KR Mustangs and I think the police inteceptors in the other GT-500s. Thanks, Ron |
The block pictured in the ebay auction is a CJ block, as it has the thicker webbing in the main bearing areas, which the T-bird 428's didn't have.

He may have been wrong with the date, but that was a steal at $1400.
