Holley fuel pump?
Does the Holley(red?), with the engine off and the pump power on, run continuously, pressure comes up immediately but the pump never turns off? Is this normal?
gn |
It shouldn't.. Hovever.. It may have positive residual pressure but that needs to be relieved (bled back to the tank) or you risk BBQ'd Cobra. If the pump is running all the time you need to run it throught the ignition switch or a circut that is off when the ignition is off.
|
It is wired thru the ignition; the question is:
when the ign switch is on, fuel pump running but the engine not yet started. The pump comes on and never turns off, does the Holleys always run continously with power or do they turn off after reaching pressure? gn |
They run as long as the ignition key is hot, they do not cycle on/off.

I have an electric Carter pump and it runs all the time the ignition is on.

One more question.
Do you set the 6 psi on the Holley reg. with the engine running or with the engine off and the pump pressurizing the carb? gn |
Niles, set the pressure with the motor running (but it shouldn't make much difference).
Another safety suggestion, you might want to consider wiring an oil pressure warning light switch into the switched power circuit on the fuel pump, with a manual override. That way, you can get in the car, prime the carburetor with the override and start right up, but if the motor ever quits (accident, etc.), the fuel pump won't keep pumping fuel, possibly through a torn fuel line. |
