Genesis and Shelby Aluminum 427 Blocks
I'm looking for an aluminum 427 block.
What's the lead time if I order the Genesis block ??? They are $3200., correct ?? I'll also settle for an early (pre-Arias) Shelby block. If you have one for sale, let's talk turkey. Thank you. Tom |
The Genesis aluminum blocks should be available soon. I believe the price is $4599. The iron Genesis blocks are $3299 but can be had for $2995 at Keith Craft Racing if there are any left at that price. There is no such thing as a pre-Arias Shelby aluminum block.
All the Shelby blocks were/are cast at Arias. I like my turkey with mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce:D HTH, --Mike |

I'm getting ready for my next project. It will include an aluminum 427 (about 525-hp, 525 ft. lbs.). I MUST have it. You know what I mean ??? How is that B-W 6-speed tranny performing ??? What are your impressions of the B-W versus the Tremecs ??? Tom |

What was your original reason for wanting a "pre-Shelby" block? I know there are a lot of misconceptions and smoke and mystery out there about the Shelby blocks but just wondering what your take was (before SFfiredog clarified it :) |

I like the T-56. I don't think I would recomend one for a SPF owner because there is some major modifications to the crossmember needed to make it fit. --Mike |

I heard the earlier blocks were of higher quality. However, subsequent feedback leads me to believe that all the Shelby blocks are fine quality-wise. The Genesis aluminum block sounds like a good alternative, if you have the patience to wait for one. Mike, I suspected there would be some mods required when I saw photos of the T-56. I think I'll pass on it then. Thanks. Tom |

I am a curious bastard so I did some investigating on the subject. Looks like the old man has brought machining in-house (bought Arias' Block Works) and brought on a new crew in engineering tech to improve both the back end and the front end. I was told today they are already kicking ass and taking names. Edit: Forgot to say, the more I look around the more it sounds like Genesis is still early in the learning curve. Flatlander racing rejected and returned a bunch of blocks, and took them off their web site. I think they will have a fair amount of customers once they get the bugs fixed and they are available. But it looks like Shelby is getting real competitive. Mmmmm, competition. :) This may be a banner year for people in the market for a block! |

I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH MIKE STENHOUSE (SECOND STRIKE) IF YOU GET A CHANCE. HE HAS AN ALUM 427 FROM FORD RACING (RDI) EASILY PUTTING OUT THE NUMBERS THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. LESS EXPENSIVE THAN SHELBY, BETTER QUALITY, NEW TECHNOLOGY, I COULD GO ON AND ON. I ALSO HAVE ONE PUTTING OUT 533HP AND 534 LB/FT IN IT'S STREET VERSION. I HAVE ANOTHER TRACK MANIFOLD AND CARB SETUP TO PUMP IT UP ABOUT 25-30HP; WITH NEW PROTOTYPE HEADERS I CAN ADD ANOTHER 50 HP, WHICH WOULD PUT ME WELL OVER 600HP. I CAN'T IMAGINE NEEDING THAT MUCH. EVERY EVENT I'VE BEEN TO, I HONESTLY BELIEVE I'VE HAD THE CAR AND ENGINE TO BEAT, ONLY PROBLEM IS THE DRIVER AND DRIVER'S SKILL LEVEL. YOU ARE THINKING RIGHT WITH THE ALUM BLOCK!!!!!!!!! TL |

50 additional HP just due to the new, stiffer, thicker block instead of the old bored-to-the-max 427's they are comparing against. Just interesting. Wonder about the stiffness of AL blocks vs iron and its affect on HP? |
