Average running temp.

I was wondering what 427FEs normally run at ,I have 180 ther. and if I idle for a while it will run about 200 ,is that to high or OK?Whats the best way to burp the air out of the system?I have stock FE expanion tank thats connected to the ther. housing if it make a differance. Also have custom alum. radiator with twin elec. fans. Thanks much.

Mine runs at 165 degrees; maybe 172 on a hot day. You don't say how long it takes to get hot while idling, but I know I avoid traffic like the plague. This is a common problem with these cars--there is no place for the air to go when standing still.

I've had the beast out on extremely hot days here in Fresno (104 and 106 were two of the hottest ones)--in stop and go--it touched 190. Usually runs about 170-175. 160 Thermo.

Wheels,

Don't worry about 200F. That's fine. If you're running 25-50% antifreeze and a 15psi radiator cap, it shouldn't boil unless you're over 220F. You needn't worry unless it boils. I have a 180F thermostat and it runs dead on at 180 if I'm moving but it'll climb to 200-210 at idle on a 100F day.

Mine has a 180 termostat and twin pusher fans, runs 190-195 in stop and go traffic. Soon as you get 50 MPH it cools to 180 , this is in 75 to 85 degree weather, aluminum radiator, 45% Prestone,55% water. I use one bottle of Redline Waterwetter.

Mine runs 175-185F while moving, climbs to 205-210F range when in traffic during hot (110F) days. 200F in your car should pose no problem.
