dual quad on a 390??

has anyone run dual quad intakes on a 390? I think it will increase horsepower if i ran 2 390cfm holleys. Any help is appreciated. Also has anyone seen any FE dual quad setups that aren't a high rise because i want some low rpm torque too, if that's possible. i don't know much about it.Thanks

Medium riser with 2x4's if you are looking for low end and also hood clearence. Check out this site for the new blue thunder intakes. Nice stuff. Carl's Ford Parts ;)

Jordan,

I would stay away from the mid riser , they will not port match well with 390 heads. The low riser setup s are much more available , much cheaper, more torque, and will port match well.

KobraKarl,
Who makes a low rise dual quad intake for the 390??

KobraKarl 06-24-2003 10:40 AM

Jordan,

Most aftermarket FE manifolds are sort of a compromise.

You can find original low riser 2x4 manifolds on e- bay very often and usually for less $ than a blue thunder or eq.

I think Scobrac may have a setup for sale , I also have a low riser setup that I was keeping around for a 428 build, If you really get in a bind and cant find one , I may part with it

I would go to parts wanted on this forum and ask ......I would bet you will come up with one.

good luck KK

390 Duals

I'm running a 390 with 60 over. It has a 67 Shelby GT500 dual quad intake with twin Edelbrock 600's on highly relieved iron heads. KickAss performance with terrific streetability. I do believe that a single quad will give better performance and is a whole lot easier to setup. With duals you'll have twice the teardown effort, time, and calibration parts costs.

Having said that - You can't beat the impressive look of duals.

390's or 450's are your best bet. Holley the 450's are cheaper (list 9773's are like $175. each) and will work right out of the box.

I have a really nice '63 lowrise C3AE9425 manifold you can have for $500. It looks new (it's not but it look it) throw a set of 1" phenolic spacer on it and it will still fit under your hood and almost flow like a medium rise. Oh yea. The spacers and studs I have too (new) for $75.

as for putting out less than a single 4 BBL. maybe if you try to run 1200 cfm into an engine that can only use 800 cfm (30% over carburated)

I was refering to differences in carb/air volume efficiency resulting from one carb supplying full flow as compared to two carbs each supplying half flow at reduced velocity. With smaller primaries and vacuum secondaries my engine is taking what it requires and never gets close to full rated CFM. - Sarno

with a pair of Holley 600's all new parts ready to bolt on...as the secondaries are vacuum controllled they only open as much as u need...email for pic slim17265@yellowbananas.com $749.00

dual quad on a 390

I have an old Edelbrock dual plane dual quad intake on my 390 and am running two carters which I believe are 550's? the numbers are not complete on the carbs. It is the first dual quad I have ever owned and am really pleased with the throttle response. I thought there would be a lot of bogging and sputtering but it ran real well until I took it to the track and wiped a caouple lobes off the camshaft. I had it in a '71 stepside pick up with a 3.90 gear with 31.5 mud grips and still ran a mid 13 with the clutch slipping. the cam was a Isky cam if I remember right it was a 280 degree with a .514 lift with a 108 lobe seperation. I am currently going back thruogh the motor and could not find the same cam but I got another Isky with the same degree and lobe seperation but with a .565 lift. So we'll see how it does here in a couple of months.
