There is another chap in the UK named Wilf, with a Crendon--but alas, we have been unable to convince him of the merits of the FE.

Hey guys heres another one for ya!

What is the overall benefit of going for a 427 stroker to say 454?
Does it make the engine more user friendly and driveable.
What rpm would a 428 crank be ok to when used for this application or would a forged crank be better.

again thanks .

428 Crank will hold up fine for street driving. I can't really say for sure, but IMO the car is easy enough to drive due to the light weight, so I don't know that it becomes more friendly. You do get more cubes and the opportunity to make more power.

Bring this post back to the top!

I just trying to figure out the best spec for an engine that would be suitable for our tiny twisty roads here in the uk.
My engine builder can get a new old stock block and advises to go with new internal parts all round, and surgests going for a 427 stroker motor=454 ci.
Im not sure i need all that power and torque from an already monsterous engine. I was thinking of a more upto date version of the original spec engine eg. alloy heads water pump inlet manifold with h beam rods MSD pro billet 1x4bbl etc, but i guess most people build with these options. So guy`s with desk top dyno what cam near to original grind spec would give me a nice sweet running engine (no lumpy tick over). I will be using W/R toploader and 3.31 axle but might go for a 3.07, tyres will be BFG 275/60/15. I got complete faith in my engine builder he`s the No.1 FE man in the uk, but id like to hear everyone elses ideas and input on the subject.

thanks

Hello Cobra Dude,

Unique Motor Cars
Tremec TKO
Jag rear with 3:54 gears.
Edelbrock Aluminum Heads
Performer RPM Intake
780 cfm Holley Street Avenger

66 427 Center Oiler, 428 crank, pistons, rings, connecting rods etc. from George Anderson at Gessford machine (All new Contemporary Componenets). Middle of the road cam for torque and not horsepower, the stroker gives you the low end torque as opposed to the standard 427...I have the engine redlined with a 6000 RPM chip in the MSD6-AL.

Drives great in all venues here in NorCal, twisties, freeways, cruises along the ocean etc. comfortable and not over powering. The overall nature of the car is a cruiser and comfortable with the obvious benefit of extreme performance on call at all time in any gear with 15-16 mpg fuel economy. My wife drove the car comfortably and was confident enough to go with a girlfriend and cruise the local towns and enjoy the looks two women in a Cobra get.

BTW the transmission, rear wheel/tire size and rearend gearing significantly impact the overall nature of the car.

Pictures in my gallery....
