DipStick
This question will seem odd I'm sure, but has anyone out there had their dipstick curl up on the end? I have a 1968 427 SO w/hydrualic lifters and 2/4s. It generates somewhere around 500hp. It has a Tony Branda oil pan and a windage tray. Two dipsticks have now curled up like bananas on me. Is this something I should be concerned about? Joel

I would guess that the dipstick is hitting the windage tray. If it hits at a bit of an angle instead of at a 90 degree angle, you probably wouldn't notice much as you pushed it in.

To clarify a little... the second one was straight until I took cobra out for spin. I put the dipstick in and took it out several times to check before I left. It was straight. After a good little ride, I checked it again and the end of it was curved.

Dipstick Curl
Joel - I had a similar experience with dipstick curl. After I fired my FE for it's initial break-in period I pulled out the dipstick to check oil level and found the end was broken off clean. The broken end was retreived after droping the oil pan. I then noticed the replacement dipstick was prone to curling. It seems that they are hooking on the windage tray and being routed above it. I think the broken dipstick was whacked by a crank journal during fireup. The solution found was to bend a curve into the dipstick end to redirection the end past the windage tray. I have had no additional problems to date. When I get an oppertunity to drop the pan again I will grind back the windage tray in the area of interference. - Aggressor

Put a little Viagra in your oil that should cure it.
