lifterguy, I'm glad to see you are contributing right away! Next time show a little more class! Instead of registering (AUG 03) and immediately posting ads on threads (I'm sorry it's thread in your case) try posting in the right area. PARTS FOR SALE. Your description does not address FUNFER but is a blind ad towards everyone. I have seen this frowned upon several times on this site.

Shelby Performance? Is that a new div. of Shelby Enterprises or ??
Mike LeFever mentioned he was bringing this in-house - is that what this is?

Bullet proof "FE" rocker assemblies now available. Titanium rockers, fully captivated in torrington bearings, severe duty shafts, presision locating on studs, too many features to list. Available thru Shelby performance now!
I am sorry if I breached etiquette on this, i just happened upon your site and saw people looking for a good rocker system! Shelby Performance, or now Shelby Motorcars is in Las Vegas (702) 643-3000. Last I heard Mike Lefevre is no longer with Shelby American. These Rockers are the best bar none!

FUNFER2 08-18-2003 05:53 AM

Lifterguy, I'm sure their great quality but, at what cost, complete ?

Funfer2,

I broke 3 rocker shafts during open track events. I then bought Precision Pumps, chrome molly shafts and spacers and had no more trouble. Just to be safe, during my rebuild last winter I bought the end stands but having put many hours on the stock stands with the PP shafts and spacers I don’t believe that the stands were absolutely necessary. You can get the rocker shafts and spacers for a few hundred bucks.
The thin, stock shaft without end supports are surely a big part of the problem but contributing factors are high valve spring tension and over revving. If you don't have a rev limiter get one and check the valve spring tension. Finally, you don’t want to be breaking the stands cuz it will put pieces of rocker shaft and in my case, lifter pieces through the motor! For a few hundred at minimum to a little over a thousand you can save the thousands of $ that it will cost for a rebuild. A final note, change the oil and check for metal. Check the magnetic drain plug but also cut open the oil filter and check for filings!

Cheers, Pete C

I hear ya Pete, if I had end stands to begin with, this may not have happened but, in my case, when it over heated, the valves stuck, pushrod bent & I think breaking the shaft. If I had stands, would it have broke anuway ? Who knows. I have either a Erson set-up or maybe...a Dove, both complete with stands. I'm waiting for a reply from Cliff on the Doves.

FUNFER2 08-18-2003 09:11 AM

Cliff- I e-mailed you this morning about the Doves, just thought I would post here also in case you did not recieve it. It happens sometimes.
Thanks,
Kev

A little background, We had 7/8 dia. chromoly shafts and could not even go 5,000 rpm. without breaking. Now, with new material and no end supports, we've had no breakage at all, and that is with 700 lbs. of spring pressure!

FUNFER2 08-20-2003 03:52 PM

Does anyone know "hdheritage97"...Cliff ? I realize we all get busy but, he's not responding to this post or my e-mails. I want to know more about his offer to sell his Dove set-up.
Thanks,
kev
