Torque Specs, please...
Does anyone know the correct Torque Specification for the oil pan bolts on a 427 Center Oiler? Running an Aviad pan, if it makes a difference. Thanks!

About the same as your valve covers maybe 15-20 pounds. At least that is how tight I tightened mine. But I use studs and nuts on my oil pan.

Nice car! Studs are much easier to deal with when re-mounting an oil pan. Studs/bolts should be torqued to 18-20 lbs. Best wishes! |
It's not the strength of the bolts or studs that's in question here, but how much the gasket is being compressed. If the pan rail is stiffer, then torque can be increased a bit. Over tighten and the pan rail bends, the gasket squeezes out and you end up with a big oil leak.:(

15 to 20 INCH POUNDS maybe.... You do not want to torque the fasteners so tight as to permanently distort the oil pan's
flange. |
I like & prefer the pan gaskets that have metal washers at each bolt hole. You can snug them down without fear of damaging the pan or overtightening the gasket itself, and use studs. They help keep the gasket in place while wrestling the pan around the oil pickup tube.

Remember to go back the next day, or after the engine is run to temp the first time (if run immediately following). Gaskets will relax and cause the bolt torque to reduce...
