Got my Crossram
1 Attachment(s)
Having lost all good sense, I am removing the 1967 GT500 Shelby dual quad manifold from my Unique to replace it with a vintage Edelbrock X-F66 crossram. Image of the crossram below.
In essence I'm tearing up an extremely fine running engine to make it less streetable. (Gotta be freaken nuts) I will be selling the GT500 dual quad in October. If anyone is interested email me: 427cobra@427cobra.net I'll provide detailed images of the GT500 Intake after removal. - Aggressor |
Geary,
How big of a hole are you going to cut in your hood in order for it to close? I looked at one of those at a swap meet recently and I just couldn't figure out how to get everything under the hood without getting out my jig saw and fiberglass. Once it is on it will look very inmpressive. Clois |
Will it fit??? You may have to run a 6" cowl induction hood over that thing.
|
that looks awesome, i don't know that much about fords but is the gt500 intake for a 390 Fe, if so i am interested in price if it isn't too much.

I think you'll need to pump up your hood clearance some, but it has been done. You'll probably need more hood clearance than this Cobra if you run air-cleaners.

Geary,
Why would you sell your other intake? DON'T DO IT!!!! wait untill you are SURE you want to stick with the cross ram. Steve:) PS, How hard is it to find a cross ram like that? I collect interesting manfolds. What should one expect to pay for one like it? Here is an M/T I have for a Ford 302 I bought it MANY moons ago for $75. It worked real well on the '68 Mustang I used to drool over as a young punk. I have never seen another one. I figgure it has to be pretty rare. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...c00771-med.jpg |

Thanks for the feedback.
Clip on the camera icon to see my photo gallery and some of your responses will have answers. I'm trying to do a replica of the original twin paxton setup. There is an image there for comparison provided by WickedFast. Also there is a good image of my GT500 dual carb setup. Clois,Jordanatkins305, Sizzler,& SteveR - You'll see that I have already put jigsaw to glass and learned to fiberglass along the way. My hood carries a scoop similar to the original. I figure about 1/2 inch of clearance. SteveR - Good Call, I'm installing in September to test and then sell if all goes as planned. To answer your question I stumbled upon this crossram on an EBAY sale. I paid $813 for it. Jordanatkins305 - My engine is based on a 390 FE. I'll keep in touch about the intake. Again Thanks - Geary Shelby Twin Paxton Image Below: |
Great looking set-up especially with those twin Paxtons.
I notice your old 2X4 set-up was Edelbrock Carburated. What jets were you running and how did you manage your fuel eg: duel fuel pumps or a single with seperate regulators. Clois |
Geary,
That is a real worth while project. Keep us posted! Steve:) |
I have run a few
I ran a couple of those, last one was on a 67 FB with a 410.
The best street/strip setup I have seen is to run 2 450 Holleys, and go with one size larger squirter. The manifolds like a little extra shot for the long runners and with the 450's the flow starts quick enough it doesnt need the shot to last long To get them balanced, start by adjusting your idle on the bench with a feeler gauge behind the plate to make them the same. Set the a/f to 1 1/8 out then if it doesnt idle, be very careful to add the same amount of turns on the idle setting on each carb. Think of it as two 4 cyl motors that have to be idling at exactly the same speed Once it idles, I set both idle a/f mixtures at highest idle / vacuum, then finish the idle adjustment by checking vacuum on each carb and adjusting idle speed Its a great manifold, sort of runs out of breath at 6000, but man it makes some decent torque. A good single plane will run circles around it above 5500, but once you get it dialed in, it'll run strong and be plenty happy on the street. It wont be less streetable if you stay with 450's with mechanical sec, but with 600's with vac secondaries, its harder to keep them opening together and the bigger carbs dont get as good of a signal at idle/transition. Bolt on the 450's and you'll have a blast |
Intake question???
Geary L Sarno Geary I saw one of these intakes at Carlisle on Fordweekens 3 years ago. I saw going to buy it but, someone said that the disturbutor is special and did not come with it. There is an extension on it to clear the intake. I may be wrong but I would check into it. Paxton has the kit for special order to do the dual kit. You may want to go with the gear blowers over the ball blowers if you are looking for more or better boost. The ball blowers have small turbines and make about 6-8 psi. With the 1 V belt it will slip under boost. The plus side is you donot need a bypass valve for this kit. It will fir under the hook if you bubble it like Shelby and still look nice. Make sure you have an 1/2" fuel line and electric pump going to the carbs. Watch timing under boost. Keep it soft and a little rich. Good luck with it. Rick Lake

Different Intakes
The Mickey Thompson(M/T) crossram need the dist spacer, the Edelbrock just needs a small distributor like stock, Mallory, or any other normal cap distributor ie. An MSD 9000 with the big cap or a Duraspark with the big cap wont fit

hey geary, do you want to sell the old one? tell me how much and i'll see if i'm interested.
thanks |
Steve R Can you please contact me about the M/T Cross Ram??
