427 pvc questions
I am running pent roof covers with holes and breather caps in both,the intake fill tube and rear breather fitting are both closed off.
Whats the best set up ? I would like to go to solid valve covers,a breather cap on the intake fill,and one of the stand up cast aluminum breathers in back,is this correct ? or should I run a pvc system ? any helh is appreciated,,,Tk |
I like to vent both ends of intake and both valve covers. Has always worked well for me. I even have a vent bung in my oil pan.
By the way where is Hogdenville, in relation to Henderson? Why don't you KY guys come to R & G in that St. Louis is so near? wt |
My opinion is that a properly functioning PCV is a good thing.
Make sure it has access to enough vacuum. Put it on the front of the driver's side valve cover. |

Thanks,I may leave it the way it is,but add a pvc,Sizzler,what do I need to hook up the pvc ?does it just suck frm the rear of the intake ? Hodgenville is pretty much in the middle of the state ,maybe 4.5 hours from st louis,3 from henderson,,I have only owned the car this summer so I plan to attend more events next year. Thanks,,Tk |
PCV, Positive Crankcase Ventilation, is a good thing. You should use this to control blow-by and fumes.
I recommend a PCV system with a valve in valve cover and a breather in the other. You can get a gromet breather and add oil through the same hole. Just my $0.02 |

I run a pcv out of one valve cover to the back of the intake under the carbs. Seems to work well but after reading this post I am wondering if I should vent the other cover or vent the filler cap or both ?:JEKYLHYDE

I have no spacer under the carbs,,where else can I get the manifold vacumn ?Tk

I run a little different set-up that seems to work. I run breathers on both valve covers and replaced the intake/rear breather with a pcv unit modified by George Anderson of Gessford in NE. that runs directly into the back of the carb. for vacuum. Before adding the pcv valve and running nothing but breathers the valve breathers would leak oil that ran down on the heads & headers. The current set-up fixed the problems and avoided extra unwanted lines running from the valve covers. I think you can see my set-up in my gallery. Best wishes!

I don't fully understand your question because on my carb there is a vacuum port out the back of the base plate - not the spacer. Sometimes, like mine was, the port is plugged - check for that and get back.

What about a breather tank setup?? How are those set up, how do they work??

I appreciate your help on this,,I just relooked at my car,,the carbs sit directy on the 1/4 inch or so black gasket...nothing else between the intake and the carbs,,I am thinking since the high riser barely clears the hood,,they left them off,,there is no vacumn port on the back of the carb either,,,I may just run the puke tank and forget the pcv,,, thanks,,Tim |
