Cobra Originals Restoration Guide, where to find?
I had spotted a Original Restorer's Guide for the Cobra and Ace on a older XK's Unlimited CSX brochure. Anyone familiar with this book? Is it useful? Where can I find a copy? (Amazon didn't have it, and it wasn't on the XK's site, either).

The book, "Original AC Ace & Cobra" ", by Rinsey Mills, 1990, is no longer in print. Copies show up on E-bay fairly often. Let me know if you can't find one there. I think I have more than one copy around here somewhere. The cost when new was ~$35.

Be aware that the Mills book, while interesting, concentrates on the Cobras made for domestic (British) consumption, not the CSX cars. There was actually quite a bit of factory customizaton not found on the cars sent to the USA.
The latest Mills book, (AC Cobra The Truth Behind the nglo-AmericanLegend is more balanced. |
My wife purchased the Rinsey Mills Original AC Ace and Cobra book for me at the local "Borders" here in CT. Was purchased last Christmas and is still on the shelves as we speak. Maybe back in print again. A nice book for general info, very nice pictures. G.

Thanks for the suggestions on the Mills book. Is this a good source of info on how the original cars were built, in detail?
I'm getting ready to build a 428, and want to get details on how they came on the factory built cars. I also want to understand the finer details of how the Shelby's were set up from the factory. The goal? I'm going to start building a 428 in the Winter for a future purchase of a 'glass Shelby Cobra (S. Africa), a Kirkham, or an aluminum Shelby Cobra (note the ascending dollar scale...). I like the idea of creating a historically correct looking Cobra (I might take a few liberties internally to the 428...). Anyone else out there doing this? What was your source of information for the finer details of your restore/build? Dking |
I have that book (and Rinsey Mills` others too, all signed!). It has a huge amount of detail, I would recommend you look at all his books. There is a guy on Ebay who regularly has this book for sale, but I couldn`t find it available from him.(Can`t remember username!) but I found someone else selling it for you.
here`s a link to ebay auction . regards, Nik. |
