Aluminum FE Oil Pans
Who makes them? Stefs? Canton?
|
Try an Armando ,looks like an Aviad
|
The Aviaids are not aluminum - therefore the Armando copies may not be either....
Check with Tony Branda or Cobra Restorers or Finish Line. |
Pat, just curious, if my Aviad is not aluminum then what is it?%/ It sure isn't plastic or steel or .....
|
Cracker -
Go get your aluminum magnet and see if it is magnetic..... |
Your right Pat - that's why I asked. What kind of coating is it that resembles aluminum and wears so well? Anyone?
|
I think it is just aluminum colored paint! On my old car it did discolor and stain - but maybe I didn't take as good care of it as I should have....Turk cleaned his and then clear coated it - it stayed looking good. The Aviaid decal also discolors a lot.
I always thought they were aluminum too - surprised me the first time I picked one up - then I noticed how thin they are and realized that aluminum THAT thin would never work as an oil pan. Pat |
Jeff Johnson's Billet Fabrication makes a neat aluminum pan that looks just like an Aviad pan. I have one at home. If you like, I can post pictures tonight if you like.

Armando does (did) make aluminium FE Oil pans as of last March. Cost was around $500.00....I went with a Canton and I couldn't be happier and I saved a couple hundred dollars too!

I have one of Armandos Aviaid style pans and it is a work of Art.
It is made of steel. That silver coating is what the metal finishers call Cad 1, which is an old style finish that has been largely replaced by Cad 2 which imparts the greenish gold look, a la Milodon. Bud:JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE |

Wow, I feel like a celebrity...those are my hands in the pictures (and my engine).
Mike, I'll be sending you a bill. Does anyone know how much a hand supermodel makes these days?? All kidding aside, the billet pan I was holding is truly a nice piece. I'm happy with the Aviad pan we put on my motor, but my only concern is the durability of the finish. Has anyone else experienced the problem mentioned earlier in this post. It would be much easier for me to coat it with some clear paint before we drop the motor in the car. |
I bought one of Armando's pans. Just like an Aviad pan...he does nice work.

Mike firedog,
Jeff Johnson's pan is a lovely piece. It has just what I've always wanted, A FLAT pan rail surface. I have difficulty keeping my stamped and ribbed Canton from weeping oil. I'm not sure from the pics [which are great], but does this pan have the trap doors as the Canton does? Also, a rough cost of this pan and does it require it's own pick-up? Thanks for contributing this info and pictures. |
Hi Chas,
The pan is supplied with it's own oil pick-up. It has the same style trap doors inside as the Aviad pan. It does not come with a windage tray. I believe it was around $680.00. --Mike |
Mike,
Thanks so much for the prompt info. I'd like to have one with winter tear-down coming. I'll probably call Billet Jeff soon. Thanks, |
