Thinking of selling my side-oiler
hello: i have been the proud owner of a 427 side oiler for 15 years.i am now thinking of selling it and would appreciate some input as to the value of my engine. as far as i can tell it was an over the counter block . it is now bored to 20 over with two sleeves. pistons are 12.5aris. heads 6090 ed[think were from a 361edsel engine with machined combustion chambers] they have had major porting done with triple valve springs. milodon timing gears.has oridginal steel crank with lemans rods. intake is offenhauser portasonic.cam is roller 600+ lift. 8 quart oil pan and oberg filter.
this engine was completly redone in in 1991 and has run about 50 gal. of fuel through it. 2 quarter mi. passes and the rest street driving. i am located near vancouver canada |
E, It's hard to put value on this without seeing exactly what you have but I'd say $6000-and up ballpark figure. Was the block damaged for you to have to sleeve it? That might hinder the price a bit. This is only a ballpark figure and please don't quote me on this. Is the block a service block? Is it set up for hyd lifters? Also is there any letters cast in the block like a P or X? Check e-bay for a better idea as I see 427's sell there on a regular basis. You might find one there that you can compare to what you have. G.

I paid $10,500 for a freshly rebuilt C5AE with matched heads that was .017+ Depends on the bore and any potential porosity, or other unseen issues that show up on sonic checking. The sleeves kill the the value for you. I'm not oppose to sleeves per se, but the collector valve is deminished.
That said you might get $5k you might get more. I'd sell it here in California. It isn't a long haul, If it were me I'd put it on e-bay. Be totally honest about the sleeves, components and time on the engine. post lots of photo's scan them or get them put on a disc but get as many as possible even build photo's if you have them. Set the reserve way above your most reasonable asking price and see where it goes. If the auction ends and the reserve hasn't been met no harm no foul. You will owe a few bucks in fees to list it (less than $10 ) If it sells for more than you imagined then you win either way. Good luck, |
thanks for your input guys the dollar amount that both of you
mention is aprox where i thought it might be. i havent followed the 427 market for sometime so this is most appreciated. in the next few days i want to lift engine out of its crate and will take some pics |
