Will a 427 S.O. 2-4 Intake work on a 68 428
Hi Guys,
I am looking at a 427 2x4 intake I want to use on my 428. Will this intake work? How involved is the switch if it does work? --Mike :JEKYLHYDE |
Unless it's a Hi-Riser or Tunnel port, it should fit with no problems. Might check the port match, you might need to match them, if they are a little off. It doesn't have to be done, it just helps the flow w/= more power.

Thanks Woodz428!,
It's a low riser. I will have it port matched if I decide to get it. Do you know how hard it is to tune a 2x4 holley set up? --Mike |
Have same setup 428 with low rise 2x4 with 2 450 holleys works fine Bob

Hi Bob,
I'm looking at an Offy 360 dual Holley set-up off of a 427 S.O.. The more I look at it, the more I like it. The carbs look like the need a rebuild, but other than that it looks good. Did you pick up any horse power or torque with the dual set-up? --Mike |
Hi, when i installed the intake i also changed the gears in the diff. so it is hard to tell for sure but it seems to pull really strong from 2000 all the way to 5500. Bob

Mike,
What is the list # on the carbs..? What is the $..? The offy manifold is not the best breather ,....the original low riser manifolds are not too pricey, and generally quite available on e-bay. Tuning a 2x4 is not that tough once you understand what is going on.....If you end up with a 2x4, I (and im sure several others ) could walk you through it . KK |
Thanks Karl,
The price is $500.00 with carbs. I will get the list for the Holley's, but I believe they are 450 cfm. I would still need to buy linkage and a fuel log. --Mike |
450's are all you need. More than you need really. They also are mechanical secondary which make them easy to dial in to your desired driving style. They are not equipped for a choke but I started my car today and it only took about 45 seconds to get it smoothed out.
The offy will work fine on the 428. $500 is a good deal with decent carbs. |
MJ,
I just saw the same unit listed on e-bay. Nice manifold. This set of 9776 carbs have chokes. It looks like a good manifold. That reproduction air cleaner is worth $100-150 depending on the air filter. (k&n filters are $75 new) all in all the parts are generally worth $75-100 per carb (new 9776 carbs are $190 ea. $300-350 for the manifold and $100 for the air cleaner. I'd say the value of the stuff I saw listed is $600. easily. |
Thanks for the help guys. I have decided to stay with a single carb instead. The cost of linkage and carb rebuilds is far greater than a new Demon or Holley carb tuned the way I want. There seems to be a good amount of 2x4's floating around if I ever want to change my mind. I just checked out the ebay auction and the set-up went for less than it's value.
