Crane Cam For 428

HI, I HAVE JUST GOT A 428 FOR MY ERA, IT HAS A CRANE CAM WITH 216/228 DURATION @ .50" WITH A GROSS LIFT OF .533/.563, IS ANYONE RUNNING THIS CAM AND HOW WELL DOES IT WORK. I AM THINKING IT MAY BE TO BIG, WHAT DO YOU THINK, THANKS TMAN0950

TMAN,

I don't think it is at all. I am running a Comp Cam 572 lift and 233/230 duration at .50. Mine has a nice rumpty rump idle and is very streetable. Until last week I was running a 2 x 4 set up on mine and I didn't have any real problems once I got my carbs sorted out. Yours will pull more vaccuum than mine since your duration is a little less. That should help your carbs and make it a little better on the street than mine.

By the way mine is a solid lifter cam if that helpsl

Definetely not too big. I have always had mild cams in my cars and my 428 has a comp cams with 244/244 @50 with .561 lift. I was really worried that this cam would be way too big for my liking. Although it has a very lumpy idle, the motor idles around 850-900, is very streetable and pulls like a freight train above 2500. I would think that your cam will seem very mild. Cubic inches go a long way in taming what would otherwise be a huge cam in a smaller engine.

That's a very mild cam and I'd recommend something larger unless you specifically want something that idles smoothly, gets decent gas mileage and is relatively tame. The Crane catalog description for that cam is:

Good idle, daily usage and off road, towing, performance and fuel efficiency, 2600-3000 cruise rpm, 8.75 to 10.75 compression ratio advised. Basic RPM 2000-5000.
