Changing Fuel Pump

I'm going to be changing the fuel pump on my 428 in the next day or so. I assume it's as simple as removing the two bolts and fuel lines, pulling the old pump out and sliding the new one in, but I have a couple questions.

Do I need to make sure the arm on the pump goes into the block in any particular way or does it only go in one way?

Also, what should I lubricate the arm with? Is oil sufficient or would cam lube or something similar be better?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Chaplin,

On mine we just put a little cam lube on it but I am not even sure that was required. I have heard both, that it should be lubed a little and that it doesn't need it so to be on the safe side I did it. Just look at the old one when you take it out and make sure the new one is the same length and matches.

Chaplin ,

If you are using a different make of pump, the actuator arm may look quite different in shape , but when you line them up side by side you will see that the "cam surface " is the same lenth and angle....

oil it ,....stick it in .......:D

Thanks gents. If I can get the temp in my garage above 38 degrees, I'll install it this week. Just bought one of the portable space heaters . . . we'll see how well they work.

All good advice..

Final thought... bump your engine until you feel the cam eccentric go to the low side... makes mating the pump flange and the engine boss so much easier.
