What out for those posted torque specs.
I looked at that site (http://www.cobra-replica.co.uk/html/cobra_53.shtml) that shows the torque specs for the various Ford engines and the head bolt torque specs for the 429/460 and the Fe's would at first appear to be transposed (backwards). Upon closer examination, the specs are correct but I just looked at it wrong initially due to the engine family listings being closer to the specs (although below) instead of following the torque specs below the engine postings.
As a reitteration, the head bolt torque for the Fe needs to be 105 lbs., not 140 lbs. Likewise for the 385 series, it needs to be 130-140 lbs., not the listed 105 lbs. I'd have deleted this post but it wouldn't let me so I just rambled on in the edit mode in order to make some sense out what I originally said. Ted E. |
Are you reusing OEM or new stuff, ARP studs? I found that the ARP stuff reccamends their lube and a resulting lower touque #. It really makes a difference..On alluminum heads you can start bending things and pulling threads.
The problem with Original 427 was OEM rod bolts ARP has a cure for that.Problem is they measure the stretch I had a engine builder do it since he had the stretch gauge and knew what he was doing and so forth. |
Thanks guys, I appreciate your time.
