Pcv Valve On Fe - - Help - -

HEY GUYS,

I WANT TO INSTALL A PCV VALVE ON MY 427 S/O.

I HAVE ONE "S" VENT ON THE BACK OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND A VENT/OIL FILL TUBE ON THE FRONT OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.

OIL VAPOR IS ESCAPING FROM THE FRONT VENT/FILL TUBE AND BEING DRAWN INTO THE ALTERNATOR. THE BEARINGS DON'T SEEM TO MIND BUT THE BRUSHES GET REALLY UPSET. I WANT TO RUN A PCV FROM THE FRONT FILL TUBE TO THE CARBS OR INTAKE MANIFOLD OR ANYPLACE THAT IT WILL WORK.

I HAVE TWO HOLLEY FOUR B'S - DOUBLE PUMPERS; NO SPACERS; AND I CAN'T FIND ANYPLACE ON THE CARBS TO CONNECT A PCV HOSE. THERE ARE "PLUGGED" PORTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD THAT (I BELIEVE) GO INTO THE FUEL MIXTURE RUNNERS ON THE MANIFOLD, ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THERE IS ONE PLUGGED PORT IN THE CENTER OF THE MANIFOLD.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO PLUMB THE PCV LINE INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BECAUSE IT CHANGES THE FUEL-AIR RATIO BALANCE BETWEEN THE CYLINDERS.

ANY THOUGHTS, SUGGESTIONS, HELPFUL HINTS, ETC. WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY THE UNDERSIGNED - AND HIS NEW ALTERNATOR.

THANKS VERY MUCH - - AND - - Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.

Blackjack, most Holleys have a big (3/8") PCV port on the throttle plate, either on the back or side...those would be the first choice. My Ford 2x4 manifold also had a plugged port at the back of the back carb pad where you can install a 3/8" hose barb for PCV connection. I agree that you shouldn't plumb into an opening into one of the runners, as you'll get all the oil vapor, etc. into only one cylinder, along with an uneven fuel/air ratio for that cylinder. Also, seems that one vent (the "S" vent at the rear) should be enough...what if you put a screw-on oil filler cap (a standard Chevy cap should fit) in place of the front vent and ran with only one vent? PCV would be better for a street machine, though...

Blackjack,

My two four intake had the same setup mr0077 mentioned and it worked well for me.

THANKS VERY MUCH, GUYS.

KEN - I FOUND THE PIPE PLUG AT THE BACK OF THE MANIFOLD. IF YOU HADN'T TOLD ME IT WAS THERE I NEVER WOULD HAVE FOUND IT.

I THINK THAT WILL DO THE JOB JUST FINE.

THANKS AGAIN - AND - Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY.
