&*&^% Oil Slingin' S.o.b..
HI GUYS - - -
I'M TRYING TO INSTALL A P.C.V. SYSTEM ON MY 427 S/O WITH TWO BIG HOLLEYS AND PENT ROOF VALVE COVERS. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAS AN OIL FILL/VENT PIPE ON THE FRONT AND AN "S" TUBE VENT AT THE REAR. MY GAME PLAN WAS TO USE AN OIL FILL CAP ON THE FRONT WHICH HAS A 3/8" BARB AND USING THE "S" TUBE FOR AN AIR INTAKE AND CONNECTING THE HOSE FROM THE FILL CAP (VIA A PCV) TO "WHEREVER". I POSTED THIS QUESTION LAST WEEK AND MEMBERS GRACIOUSLY INFORMED ME THAT THERE SHOULD BE A 3/8" BARB - OR THREADED HOLE - ON THE THROTTLE PLATE OF THE CARBS. DARNED IF I CAN FIND IT. AS A BACK-UP IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THERE IS A 3/8" PIPE "PLUG" BEHIND THE REAR CARB ON THE MANIFOLD. SHO' 'NUFF - THERE IT WAS - HIDDEN NEATLY AWAY. I IMMEDIATELY SET ABOUT LOCATING AEROQUIP HOSE & FITTINGS TO MAKE THIS A FIRST CLASS JOB. (I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHEN THE AEROQUIP DEALER HAD "ALL" OF THE PIECES IN STOCK). I ASSEMBLED THE HOSES, PCV AND CAP AND THEN - - - - - - ($%^^%%@%^%$). I REALIZED THAT AFTER I SCREWED THE FITTING INTO THE PLUG HOLE ON THE BACK OF THE MANIFOLD - - THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO REINSTALL THE "S" TUBE VENT. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'VE TRIED, IN THE PAST FEW DAYS, ALL SORTS OF "RUBE GOLDBERG" SCHEMES AND NONE OF THEM WORK. IS THERE ANY SORT OF "REAR VENT" THAT WOULD REPLACE THE "S" TUBE AND BE LESS THAN TWO INCHES IN HEIGHT. I DON'T THINK THE ADAPTER WITH THE TUBE FITTING FOR THE PUKE TANK WILL ADMIT ENOUGH AIR TO WORK. THERE IS ALSO A 3/8" PLUG ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD - ON THE SIDE - BETWEEN THE CARBS - WHICH (UNLIKE THE PLUGS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE) "APPEARS" TO NOT TAP INTO A FUEL RUNNER. I'D REALLY APPRECIATE ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS (FRUSTRATING) ISSUE. THANKS - AND - Y'ALL HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY. BLACKJACK |
Blackjack - I ran into a similiar problem when I was using the Pentroofs on my 427 as well. I ended up ditching the S-Tube on the back and buying one of Gessford machines modified DOVE plates with a pcv assembly in it for $80. Done. Finished. End of story and everything works great. It simply plumbs into the vac port on the back of the carb. I know you went another direction but halfway through your post I lost patience and simply relplied. Best wishes!
My unit is definetly no more than two inches high. You can see it in the back with the black hose to the carb. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...eright-med.jpg |
Blackjack, I think Tony has the best idea...I just looked at mine and there is NO ROOM between where the S-tube would go and the fitting. Have you tried a 90 degree 3/8 NPT-to- swivel AN fitting on the manifold?
FWIW, be sure you have a PCV fitting in the line from the manifold to the breather, to regulate the air flow into the manifold. My manifold has a "boss" that looks like it could/should be tapped, located between the carbs, pointing up and out on the drivers side, at about a 45 degree angle, that looks to go directly into the crossover between the front and rear plenums...if yours goes into that area, it should work just as well as (maybe better than?) the one at the rear of the manifold. Good luck. |
So thats what BlackJacks been up to lately. :D
