Mounting oil dipstick on Aviad pan.
Trying to figure out how to mount the dip stick supplied by Avaid to the pan. Tube seems very long do I need to cut this down? Can any one supply me with a close up picture or diagram? Also I think the tube attaches to the front of the head correct?
thanks, Morgan:confused:  |
Give me a moment...
This shows you what it ends up looking like. You can always come over to see what it looks like in person. http://www.gasholes.com/yabbse/galle...s/DSC01259.JPG |
For the actual connection to the pan, did your dipstick come with a brass fitting that has two open ends to it, mabe about 1.5 inches long? Each end for this fitting has a rubber ring inside it--one to slip onto the pan bung, the other for the dipstick tube to slip in. That fitting then has two "nutlike" collars that tighten those rings onto each for a tight seal.

Mine is similar to JAMO's above. My tube is attached to the lower water pump bolt and is hidden behind the expansion tank. It sounds like your talking about the driver's side of the engine since most heads don't have provision's for bolts on the passenger side front.

thanks Jamo and Cracker
Jamo, I think I might take you up on that visit soon. The dip stick just loked hight to me when i put it in position.
Cracker, thank you as well. On the pass side of the elebrock heads i think there is a threaded hole. The water pump bolt, very helpful information. My dealer told me not to use the brass fitting. He said to use a short piece of hose in its place, so its flexible enough to move. Morgan |

Let me know...given our weather, I can easily be talked into bring the beast to work. There's some moron with a big ol POS BMW pretend cafe racer that parks in our parking lot that I need to show up on occasion.:3DSMILE: |
Red,
I did mine differently - mounted off of block instead of water pump. Here it is: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...79pc280003.jpg |
Perfect Shot, thank you
Just what I was looking for. I wa also wondering what the other port was for. It looks like you just capped it off?
thanks again, Morgan |
The other port is for any excess oil in the puke tank to drain back to the pan.

dip stick
I didn't receive one of these with my pan. Where can I buy one?

Doug and Morgan,
The dipstick and the cap are available from Gessford for about $30 and $18, respectively. That little bracket off of my block is just a piece of flat stock with a couple holes drilled in it (nothing fancy). Joe |
thanks
Joe
Thanks for the reply. I'll give George a call. Doug |

George Thank you
Great detail shots of some awsome FE iron. Since I don't plan to run a oil puke tank I will have to find something to use to cap off the oil return port.
thanks again, Morgan:cool: :D |
