PCV setup

Can anyone supply a picture or describe the proper setup for a PCV on a Cobra? Do the fill tube in the back of the manifold still exist and have a breather? Does the valve cover without the OCV valve have a breather? Etc.
Thanks
Rick

The rear breather goes to the puke tank. I ran the valve cover breather to the base of the carb for PCV.

Thanks for the reply. So that is how it would be set up from the factory. A 'breather' housing the PCV valve connected to the carb, another breather on the opposite valve cover and the intake(rear breather) connected to the puke tank, correct?

Do you have a picture of the puke tank and does it have a return line?

Thanks

The breather on the passenger side only, is connected to the carb.
You can see from the picture the return line at he bottom of the tank. It drains back to the oil pan.
The other line that exits above acts like a road draft tube and just hangs down to the frame creating negative pressure in the tank.

I turned up the brightness on the computer screen and now I can see the lines! Thanks I have a good mental picture of the set up now.

PCV is on for emissions corrent? Why run it at all?

rdorman 03-16-2004 09:53 AM

I didn't have one to begin with but got tired (minor nuscance) of oil around the breathers. So I put on a PCV valve to cut down on this. By the way, the PCV is one of those rare emission items that in theory at least can help performance (positive pressure in crankcase = bad, negative pressure in crankcase = good). So anyways, I am working on an engine make over and I want to set up the system just like the original FE's where set up.

So there is the story!

The PCV system removes corrosive gases from the crankcase/ blowby, increases engine life. I ran the breather hose to the bottom plate/support of the air cleaner assembly. Drilled a hole in the plate.

Another reason for the PCV! I have yet to find a down side to them.

Fine tuning crank case pressures a bit further, pressure equalization between cylinders can yield performance gains you might not expect. Take a look at the block casting of the newest generation Honda V6's, such as the 3.2L in the '04 TL. The addition of relief holes between cylinders was good for 6 HP.

I was just sitting here thinking about how I am going to hook this thing up. If you where going to run a PCV and a puke tank, would it be better to hook the down tube to the PCV and engine vacuum? Is it possible to fill the tank and have the motor suck oil through this type of setup? Wouldn't even want to risk a hydrualic lock up. Or should these systems be kept completely seperate.

The return line, does it go in near the top of the pan?

Thanks
Rick
