Dip Stick

I must be getting old or just maybe picky, but I can not read the chrome dip stick in my FE 427. If the oil is new forget it ! It is difficult to get back into the tube and of poor quality. Any one else found a solution ????:JEKYLHYDE

Look for an original one. I see them on ebay and some of the FE vendors have them too. Try DSC motorsport, Perogies or Carls Ford parts. Lokar also sells a universal one. I think it's a flex type. G.

Today I do not use a dip stick because I usually change my oil after each days event. Otherwise if I am going to do some cruising I don't worry about my oil level since it was probably just changed.

When I did run a dipstick I had a bung drilled and welded into my oil pan close to the front because I had less bending of the stick and my dipstick tube. I too have problems reading the chrome dipsticks, especially when the oil is brand new.

Use a belt sander, fine grit and remove the chrome for about 2 inches. Then if needed use a file for your full mark and add mark. Remember to calibrate the dip stick if your using a non-stock pan.
Example: Canton Pans are 8 qt. systems, that means 7 qt oil pan and 1 quart in the filter, not 8 quarts in the pan. The system is 8 quarts, kinda misleading.
