Hyd. roller lifters

Is it true that 429-460 hyd. roller lifters
will work in a FE?, I'm putting together parts for an SCJ I've had for a while and
thought this might be an option.

427 S/O Perry the numbers i have in the Crane cat are 35532 for both motors. Summit sells them for 409.00$ I am going with a set in my next motor. What are you building ? which cam?? I am going with the small one from crane. Rick Lake

Yet to make a decision on the cam specs., I did decided to go with a 391 steel crank, LaMans rods, 2x4 TW and massaged 390 GT heads, I prefer the externally balanced setup and sold the other SCJ stuff. Sort of a mix of parts that should run well.

When I was considering cams I was told the FE doesn't throw enough oil up to the cam to let a roller lifters survive on the street .I was told 15000 miles and swap lifters. and have the used ones rebuilt or tak your chances on getting all those needle bearings in the motor .
I'd rather have a singlr 4brl tunnel wedge with a dominator or fit it for multiport EFI with a large air door. Air cleaners for 2x4 are restrictive and TW makes height and a hood an issue. The 8 1/2' stelling and hellings look cool but not very functunal.I'd settle if K&N made an extreme top to fit.

MICHAEL C HENRY Mike there is a trick to fixing this problem The racing solid lifter have a .0015 groove that provides oil to the roller to spin on the cam with lube. I have not seen the hydro lifter yet but I am sure that there is a luber hole for this. I agree with you on air filters. The other option is to make an air box to the hood and put a thin filter liner to keep the big pieces out. The down side is not to be in the rain. The 70 AAR Cuba my friend has doesn't like the rain at all due to the hood scoop. Roller lifter set up right will run 100 k with no problems, If the bearing comes apart you will need lifters and a cam. It is a trade off. The bearings should not get into the motor if the screens on the pickup tube are the correct size. My next motor is going dry sump. Have a nice day Mike, reset the house clocks. Rick Lake :) ;)

Mike, I had issues with K&N's air cleaners so I called them about Xtream tops for my S&H. Sorry, we don't make them they said so, I made my own. Stainless steel wire mesh, 180 microns, a noticeable difference when you have a little rpm, as for hood clearance, it's close and the torque bar eliminates engine movement.
I was concerned about trash when building the SS tops and decided to do
an 'unscientific' test, I poured a handful
of 'sandbox' sand on the mesh and shook it over a black piece of paper,
very small amount penetrated and the consistency of +1 baby powder. No air cleaner is perfect and I was satisfied
with the results.
