Who's the best upper midwest FE wrencher?
I'm in Madison, WI. I have a 1965 390 that has sat idle for almost 20 years now. It's currently housed in a 1965 Ford Custom. The engine was built up extensively throughout the mid to late 1960's, and I'm looking for the best 390 FE mechanic in my area to bring her back to life and tune her right.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
I recommend John Vermeersch of Total Performance in Mount Clemens, MI (suburban Detroit). Within Ford Motor Company, John is widely regarded as the foremost FE engine expert in the country. He has been building and racing FEs since the 60's and has tremendous expertise. He also has a huge cache of FE parts and engine blocks including 427s. He built and installed my engine and it is nothing short of spectacular. He always has trailers traveling around the country for racing events and might even be able to pick up your car.

Within 60 miles from you...
Tom Nickerson at NVR Racing in Milwaukee is also a veteran on the FE blocks and is familiar with their weaknesses and upgrades. Tom does of lot of other high level engines with decades of experience.
I've also discussed with Tom in building a line up of "cobra-specific" engines just this past January and he was interested, although since you are in Wisconsin, you already know this is the busiest time of the year as everyone is ramping up for the impending Circle track season starting soon.
