Oval Air Cleaner Assembly

A quick question to all,

I am in process of replacing my air filter element on my oval Cobra logo air cleaner assembly and have a question. I know that there was a thread a while back about replacement elements for these but am unable to find it.

What is the OEM (Motorcraft) part number? Also, I have found 3 K&N filter numbers that are approximately the same size and would like to know if anyone had found/used these on their application. The K&N numbers are E-1960 (1.8" tall), E-1963 (3" tall) and E-1966 (6"tall) I do have the under hood room for a 3" filter and am leaning the way of the E-1963 but am requesting input first for the Motorcraft number first so I can get a baseline. I realize that Tony Branda sells these, but I am interested only in the Motorcraft number at this time.

Thank you.

John

John - I use the 1.8" tall K&N filter on my oval air cleaner because of headroom limitations - fits just fine, no restriction at WOT that I could see on a vac guage.

Wilf,

You used the K&N # E-1960? Does it fit the base okay or does it sit on top of the flange? The reason I ask is because I have measured my paper element that I have and the oval is a little smaller than the measurements in the K&N book says the K&N one is.

Where did you get it and what was the cost?

Thank you.

Sits just fine on the base. However, remember that I am using an oval air cleaner supplied in the UK. Could differ from those available in the US, although I suspect they are all pretty much the same. Pics in my gallery here.

I got my filter through "Demon Tweeks", a UK tuning parts outfit. They special ordered it from K&N for me.
I honestly can't recall how much it cost - if it is important to you I could look for the invoice? Remember that my cost would be in ££s, not $$s.

The Motorcraft number is FA48.

if you use solid motor mounts you can use a much taller filter with out it hitting your hood , also off set the filter 1.25 inchsd to match the off set of the motor. most Cobras starve for air.
