Correct Fuel pump/filter setup?

Hey guys. I am trying to find out, what the correct fuel pump and filter setup is for the 427 Cobra. I've seen original cars having the canister filter in front of the drivers head. But all the pics of FE fuel pumps from that era, have filters built into them. So does the Cobra use twin filters, or does it use a regular mechanical pump with no integral filter? Thanks much for the info!

Pumps/Filters

If you are referring to the electric Stewart Warner fuel pumps in the trunk, they did use filters, but you didn't always run with the pumps on and the main line bypassed the pumps and went tank to carb so the cannister was necessary. Mechanical fuel pumps on the motor which were also use in the set-up did not have a filter.
Long and skinny....
The filters in the electric pumps were too restrictive and hindered flow. The cannister filter was designed for trucks and was a terrible design thet also had poor flow.
Solution..
Throw away the 240A filters and run without. Use a filter in the tank from fuelsafe that is part of the road race set-up.
Use a staight though tube at the cannister to keep the look and bypass the inner works.
Install 2 in line hi-po filters under the car.
Yopu keep all the real looks but do not disrupt the flow while keeping th moptor clean. The hi-po's are easy to clean and you will be happy

Thanks Steve. I wasn't referring to the trunk pumps, but it's good info. What I meant was did the mechanical pump have the integral filter on it, plus the canister filter up top, or did the mechanical pump not have the built in filter. I gathered from your reply that the mechanical pump did NOT have the screw on filter, and that the canister filter was used by itself (aside from the filters on the trunk pumps). I like your idea about bypassing the cansiter and just keeping it for looks, and using an under car filter. I think I'll go that route. Thanks :).

On a related note, do you know anyone who makes a fuel log for the single carb setup? I can't find one for the life of me, just for 2x3 ans 2x4 setups.

Attached is a pic of the mech pump; there was no filter attached.

1x4 log available from several sources... Cobra Restorers, Motorsports Intl...also Kirkham has a part available.
