Oil Temp Sender ?
WHERE DO I INSTALL THE OIL TEMP SENDING UNIT?**) THANKS

If you are running an after market pan there is a fitting that works real well. If you are running stock oil filter and pan you may want to put a tee fitting off your oil pressure sending unit (located near your oil filter) . The best place I think would be somewhere in your return oil cooler line if you have one.

You've got several options:
1. Depending on the pan, if stock there are adapters for the low oil sender on front right. 2. Into remote filter adapter 3. Buy an adapter to go in-line with the remote filter. 4. If after-market pan, punch a hole. Mine's(Gordon's pan) in left side. Mike Foss |
I have mine in a tee fitting at the oil pressure sending unit. It is useless there. Since no oil flows through that fitting the temp on the guage is always very low. If you can't find another location such as the pan or oil cooler line don't waste your time on the tee idea. IMHO

Wherever you install it make sure that the location will allow the senso to be submerged in the oil as most are "wet bulb" types that won't read correctly unless it's in the fluid.

Do not put it "after" the oil cooler. If you can't measure the oil temperature in the crankcase it should be measured as soon as it comes out of the crankcase (before hoses, cooler and filter), oil pressure should be measured just before it enters the engines (after hoses, cooler and filter).

I have the same question.
I'm running a 351 W and there is a threaded plug on the side of the block under the headers. Is this where you are supposed to put the temp and pressure units? |
When I bought my car, the sending unit was in the auxillary dip stick hole in my Canton pan. It never worked for two years. I eventually had it moved to my oil filter adapter and it works great. I believe the oil adapter is the best place.
